Facebook categorizes all organization pages into different groups. However, if your parish’s Facebook page was set up years ago, you might not be in any categories! Parish Facebook categories matter. They help in Google searches, Facebook searches, and Facebook recommendations. In order to make your parish more visible on Facebook, there are a number of easy improvements you can make. The first one is editing your categories. To begin, navigate to your parish page. Next, click on the three dots in the center-left, and choose “edit page info”:
Finally, go to the “Categories” section. Our team’s recommendation is that you choose Catholic Church, Christian Church, and Church. As you do this, you’ll notice you’re only allowed three categories. It is in your interest to select the maximum number of three. Selecting these three categories makes it more likely that your parish Facebook page will appear when people look for churches in your local area. Imagine someone who is brand new to your neighborhood who has faith in Jesus. How will she find a church? In 2019, she’ll likely Google for one.
Remember to keep an eye on your Facebook Insights after making these changes. Chances are you’ll start to see an uptick in traffic on your parish Facebook page. This jump in traffic should remain fairly consistent over time. Keep in mind that every one of these new visitors represents an opportunity to evangelize and engage. If your parish’s Facebook page is your church’s digital billboard, the categories you choose help place that digital billboard in exactly the right spot.
