Keeping your Raiser’s Edge NXT account secure is one of the most important things you can do to protect your donor data. Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a simple but powerful way to add an extra layer of protection to your Blackbaud ID.
When you first set up your Blackbaud ID, you were prompted to enable MFA. Over time, you might need to update how you log in. Maybe you got a new phone, switched to a different authenticator app, or just want to review your recovery options.
Here’s how to do that quickly and safely change your recovery options.
Step 1: Open your Blackbaud Account Profile
While signed in to Raiser’s Edge NXT, click your profile icon and select Blackbaud Account. From there, choose Profile. This will take you to a page that displays your account information, including your name, email, communication preferences, and details about your Blackbaud ID.
Step 2: Locate Multifactor Authentication
Scroll down until you see the section labeled Multifactor Authentication. Here, you’ll find your current recovery phone number and your authentication method. You can update either one at any time.
To make changes, click the small pencil icon next to the multifactor authentication section. This will open the Edit Multifactor Authentication screen.
Step 3: Manage or Change Your Setup
Click Manage, then select Change Setup. You’ll see a message confirming that you want to update your MFA settings. At this point, you can choose whether you’d like to receive your verification code by text message or through a mobile authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Step 4: Select a New Authentication Method
If you choose text message, enter your phone number and follow the prompts to verify the confirmation code sent to your device.
If you prefer to use an authenticator app, the screen will display a QR code. Open your preferred app, scan the QR code, and complete the setup from your phone.
Once you finish the process, your updated method will be saved automatically.
Why This Matters
MFA may feel like an extra step, but it dramatically reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your organization’s data. With sensitive donor information stored in Raiser’s Edge NXT, even one compromised password can have serious consequences. Using an authenticator app makes your account even more secure than text verification.
Make sure your entire team reviews their MFA settings regularly and keeps recovery phone numbers up to date. A quick check today can prevent a big headache later.
